Business climate survey "German Business in Japan 2025"

The results of our survey show what German companies with business in Japan particularly value about the location, what growth they expect and what strategic importance the country has for their business activities.

Economic stability, openness to technology and innovation, the reliability of business relationships as well as a highly developed infrastructure and qualified specialists – these and other factors make Japan an attractive location for German companies. 82 percent of the companies we surveyed for the current business climate survey "German Business in Japan 2025" generated a profit in 2024, and the outlook for the future is also optimistic: 73 percent expect sales to increase in 2025, and as many as 80 percent expect this to be the case in 2026.

Further results at a glance:

  • Success story of the last decade: 64% of companies increased their turnover in the last ten years, 26% tripled it or achieved even more growth.
  • A differentiated view of the new US administration: 22% of respondents expect President Donald Trump's re-election to have a positive impact on their business in Japan. This is an increase of ten percentage points compared to the result of his first election in 2017.
  • Biggest challenges: Recruiting qualified personnel (82 percent) and exchange rate risks (77 percent).
  • Japan as Germany's global partner: 63% cooperate with Japanese partners in third countries. In our previous year's survey, the figure was 53%.
