Navigating Geopolitics - Risk Management, Forecasting and Best Practices in German Companies

How organizations assess geopolitical risks and which strategies they use for resilience and new opportunities.

Geopolitical crises are part of business reality and influence supply chains, investments and business models. Our study is based on a survey of around 350 top decision-makers from 12 key sectors of the German economy. It shows that 58% of companies consider themselves to be strongly affected by geopolitical risks, but only around a quarter have a structured risk management or forecasting system in place. Many organizations still act reactively, while clear responsibilities and regular analyses are lacking. The study describes key areas of action, shows examples from practice and a maturity model that shows the path from ad hoc reactions to strategic management. It illustrates how companies can use geopolitical dynamics not only as a threat, but also as an impetus for innovation and growth.
