Financial services providers are driving digitalisation forward at a rapid pace, with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) at the forefront. However, transformation means more than simply implementing technologies: the ecosystem that underpins these technologies is a key factor for success. These are key findings from the KPMG Global Tech Report 2026 for Financial Services.

The study is based on a survey of 760 technology executives from the financial sector worldwide. The results reveal a high level of dynamism: 89 per cent of respondents view their company as a technological ‘innovator’ or ‘fast follower’. AI is considered the trend with the greatest expected impact for the current year – but, as the study shows, hurdles must be overcome to realise AI’s potential.

The study thus provides a comprehensive overview of the industry – from self-assessments of current AI maturity levels and the evaluation of current risks to concrete expectations for the future. Find out now:

- why robust technological foundations are crucial for successful transformation,
- how financial services providers scale innovation without compromising resilience and risk management, and
- where technology investments actually create added value – beyond pilot projects and individual initiatives.
