As motor vehicles are increasingly networked with a growing share of IT solutions, car manufacturers are ever more frequently confronted with the issue of cyber risks. New regulations, which will gradually become mandatory in the EU from July 2022, require manufacturers to continuously ensure the cyber security of their vehicles. As part of this, they must operate a certified cyber security management system (CSMS).

How far has the industry come in terms of implementation? And what challenges for companies still remain? Together with our cooperation partner ESCRYPT, we answer these questions in the Automotive Cyber Maturity Report 2021. For the study, we interviewed managers at car manufacturers and supplier companies from ten countries.

In this publication, we present the results of the survey - including the scope and progress of CSMS projects - and explain five important findings that we extracted from the responses.
